Express Nursing are supporting a not for profit organisation that is focused on supporting children and young people to live safe, happy, healthy and successful lives.

We are recruiting Waking Night Support Worker's to provide care to vulnerable residents overnight; ensuring the buildings are safe and secure, and to perform welfare checks. This role requires shift work across all 7 days of the week, throughout the full year, including Christmas, New Year and other bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities

This post will be responsible for providing care to vulnerable residents overnight; ensuring the buildings are safe and secure and for carrying out some cleaning and administrative duties. The postholder may be required to do regular welfare checks on a young person who is high risk of self harming or having suicidal ideations or is at risk of going missing.

Care offered includes:

  • Responding to times of crises
  • Supporting daytime staff with setting a night time environment for the children
  • Supporting the children, ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented during the night
  • Ensure the upkeep of the home is maintained
  • Liaising with agencies, stakeholders and services associated with the home

The successful candidate will have the following aptitudes: 

  • Ability to assess risk and generate solutions to problems, strong analytical and planning skills, and the ability to assess and review young people’s needs.
  • Commitment to the protection and safeguarding to young people at risk of abuse or harm.
  • Ability to identify and record any safeguarding issues in accordance with the Residential Home and Achieving for Children’s Safeguarding procedures.
  • Commitment to carry out day-to-day and deep cleaning tasks and routine Health & Safety checklist task.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:
  • This role requires shift work across all 7 days of the week, throughout the full year, including Christmas, New Year and other bank holidays.
  • The role includes sleep-in duties and waking night shifts. A sleep-in allowance is paid where applicable.
  • Due to the nature of working in Children’s Homes, enhanced vetting is required. This includes reviewing your full employment history from the point you left school.
  • This post will be based across provider services in Windsor, Teddington and Surbiton children’s homes.
Role Responsibilities
  • To provide leadership to less experienced staff to ensure the development of best care practice and optimal outcomes for clients.
  • To provide therapeutic and personal care to the patient.
  • Promote the rights of patient to be treated with dignity and respect in every aspect of their lives
  • Respect the confidences of patients, except where to do so would result in harm to a patient, damage to the property or the commission of a criminal offence.
  • Establish supportive relationships with patients and encourage the development of stable relationships between the patient and other staff, and their families and friends.
  • Promote the emotional health and self-esteem of the patient and support them through changes in living circumstances and personal relationships.
  • Support patient in making their own choices and decisions to the maximum of their capability and ensure that the needs and wishes of the patient is fully considered in any decision relating to them.
  • Ensure the protection of the patient from significant harm, by exercising vigilance, observing changes in the patient's behaviour or appearance, and complying fully with the Vulnerable Children policy.
