Oncology RGN - Shrewsbury

• Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients receiving oncology and haematology treatments across inpatient, outpatient, and day-care settings.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans, ensuring patients' physical, psychological, and emotional needs are met.
• Administer systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT), including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive medications, in accordance with Trust policies and competency requirements.
• Monitor patients during and after treatment, recognising and responding promptly to adverse reactions, treatment-related toxicities, and clinical deterioration.
• Safely administer intravenous medications, blood products, and supportive therapies within scope of practice and local protocols.
• Provide patient and family education on treatment plans, side effects, symptom management, medication adherence, and health promotion.
• Deliver holistic symptom management, including pain control, nausea management, fatigue, and palliative and supportive care interventions where appropriate.
• Maintain central venous access devices (CVADs), including PICC lines, Hickman lines, and implanted ports, in accordance with clinical guidelines.
• Collaborate effectively with oncologists, pharmacists, allied health professionals, palliative care teams, and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation using electronic patient record systems.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control measures, safe handling of cytotoxic drugs, safeguarding procedures, and clinical governance standards.
• Participate in emergency management, including recognising and escalating oncological emergencies such as neutropenic sepsis, spinal cord compression, and tumour lysis syndrome.
• Support discharge planning, care coordination, and referrals to community and specialist services to ensure continuity of care.
• Supervise, mentor, and support junior nurses, healthcare support workers, and student nurses as appropriate.
• Participate in audit, quality improvement initiatives, research activities, mandatory training, and continuing professional development.
