About the role

Express Nursing are recruiting for a Mental Health HCA in Suffolk. The client is a Level 2 rehabilitation service, with 23 beds across two wards. The service supports women who have a mental health need and/or a diagnosis of a Personality Disorder (PD). People may also have other co-morbid diagnoses such as mild learning disability and co-existing physical health conditions, or be transitioning from CYPMHS services.

You will join an inclusive and supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with a range of Mental Health conditions, using your knowledge and skills to help people along their recover pathway towards leading a valued and fulfilled life.

You will work alongside the team helping to provide a specialist provision. The service has an enhanced level of support to allow people with continuing challenging behaviour and high support needs to be cared for in the least restrictive setting possible, but within a service which is robust and structured enough to meet their ongoing needs and risks. This client supports:

  • Women aged 18 and over or individuals transitioning from CYPMHS 17+
  • Individuals with a diagnosis of/or emerging Personality Disorder (PD), Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) or other mental illness, consideration will also be given to those with a mild LD or ASD as a secondary need
  • Individuals with Disordered eating and those with an NG need where BMI is ideally at 18.5
  • We provide LGBTQ+ affirming care whilst creating a safe and inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ community. We welcome referrals for transgender and non-binary individuals
  • Individuals may be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) or informal

For a limited time, we can consider local candidates who are on a 20 hour VISA but this is restricted to 5 applications so be quick!

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day will include ward rounds, analysing behaviours and adapting care accordingly with colleagues, updating patient records, and providing overall care and support, which may include assisting with personal hygiene.

It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important. But it is hugely rewarding to see people improve because of your involvement, knowing that you’ve made someone’s life better.

Public transport is limited to this site. You will ideally need to be a driver or live locally to Bury St Edmunds.

Candidate Requirements

Applications will only be considered if you have:

  • PMVA 3 day training
  • Practical Basic Life Support Training Certificate
  • Full immunisation History/ Serology Reports

Ability to work fully flexibly, covering day, night and weekend shifts
