About the role

As an endoscopy nurse, you play a vital role in patient care. You are the guiding hand before, during, and after specialized gastrointestinal procedures. Your main job is to keep patients safe, comfortable, and well-informed throughout their medical journey.

Before a procedure begins, you are the first reassuring face the patient sees. You review your patient's medical history, check their vital signs, and explain what to expect. Many patients feel anxious about endoscopy or colonoscopy. Your calm voice and clear explanations help ease their fears and prepare them mentally. You also ensure that the consent forms are signed and that the patient followed the correct preparation steps at home.

Inside the procedure room, your focus shifts to teamwork and safety. You assist the physician by setting up highly specialized equipment. During the examination, you monitor the patient's breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure very closely. If sedatives are used, you watch for any changes in their comfort level. You also hand tools to the doctor, such as biopsy forceps or snares, to collect tissue samples quickly and safely.

After the procedure, you guide the patient through the recovery phase. You monitor them until the sedation wears off and they are fully awake. You check for any immediate complications like pain or bleeding. Finally, you provide clear discharge instructions to the patient and their family. You explain what they can eat, when to take their medication, and which warning signs require medical attention.

Your technical skills and deep empathy make you an essential part of the healthcare team. By managing both the complex equipment and the patient's emotional needs, you ensure that every endoscopic procedure runs smoothly. It is a rewarding career where your quick thinking and compassionate care directly improve lives every single day.
