About the role

Express Nursing are an approved provider for the All Wales Framework with contracts available in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Express Nursing are recruiting agency nurses across all specialities for shifts, including some early/late shifts which can be booked together (in the same hospital) to create a long day or night across separate wards.

  • Day – Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00
  • Night – 20:00 – 08:00
  • Saturday –  00:01 – 23:59
  • Sunday/ Public Holidays 00:01 – 23:59

Key Responsibilities

Express Nursing are providing agency staffing in line with the All Wales Framework agreement.

As an agency nurse, you will be working alongside the multi disciplinary team and be able to:

  • Independently perform triage of adult and paediatric patients attending the Emergency Department
  • Independently assess expected patients in order to determine the most appropriate environment of care following departmental guidelines
  • Independently administer approved medications under patient group directives
  • Identify patients as suitable for fast-tracking, redirection, or autonomous treatment by senior nurses
  • Develop competency in the assessment and undertake the prescribed treatment of children with the ED setting, using an approved framework
  • Skilled in venepuncture, cannulation and administration of intravenous medication
  • Develop or refine Advanced Life Support skills for adults, APLS for children and trauma patients
  • Perform duties as required during Major Incident
  • Manage patients with psychiatric presentations such as overdose
  • De-escalates and responds appropriately to potential and actual aggressive/ violent situations
  • Responds as per Health Board and local policy to the absconded patient

 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high quality nursing care to patients attending the Emergency department
  • Successfully complete a locally approved orientation and clinical competency programme
  • Support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused
  • Manages a variety of presenting patients’ conditions in Adults and children
  • Identify abnormalities in diagnostic tests and blood results e.g., X-ray and CT reports, blood results. Escalating appropriately to appropriate teams
  • Contribute to the development of an environment which supports the value of nursing care within the Emergency department
  • Liaise and communicate with members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of patient care
  • Ensure the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness
  • Works collaboratively with the nursing team to maximise flow of patients through the department
  • Ensure safe transfer and discharge of patients
  • Contribute to the setting of standards for nursing care
  • Assists the Line Manager in monitoring the work of the nursing team, evaluating the effectiveness of care/treatment, and facilitate and coordinate program for clinical audit.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and their significant others following Safeguarding principles
  • Communicates sensitive and complex information concerning patient’s medical condition, requires persuasive, reassurance skills
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with NMC standards
  • Utilise customer care skills when caring for patients and relatives
  • Maintain and protect confidential information relating to patients at all time
  • Ensure advanced skills are maintained and updated

Candidate Requirements

You will need to be fully compliant before we can offer details of shifts as your information will be shared with the Health Board. You must have experience in an Emergency Department as a band 5 nurse

A minimum of 12 months UK hospital experience is required.

NMC Pin Check and full DBS checks are required, it is a client requirement that we cannot offer shifts to anyone with any criminal convictions or cautions showing on their DBS checks. DBS must be on the update service.

Post-registration/graduate diploma level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience to include:

  • ILS/ PILS
  • IV medication administration
  • Venepuncture and cannulation
  • Triage competent in (Adult and paediatric triage)
  • Competent in the application of emergency casts
  • NMTC Level 1 Trauma trained
  • Leadership skills
  • Communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team Decision making skills
  • Dedicated to the development of junior staff
  • Proactive
