About the role

Express Nursing are an approved provider for the All Wales Framework with contracts available in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Express Nursing are recruiting agency nurses across all specialities for shifts, including some early/late shifts which can be booked together (in the same hospital) to create a long day or night across separate wards.

  • Day – Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00
  • Night – 20:00 – 08:00
  • Saturday –  00:01 – 23:59
  • Sunday/ Public Holidays 00:01 – 23:59

Community Hospitals:

  • Risca Health Centre (Newport)
  • Serennu Children’s Centre (Newport)
  • Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan (Ebbw Vale): Offers a Minor Injury Unit and maternity services.
  • Monnow Vale Health and Social Care Facility (Monmouth)
  • St Cadoc's Hospital (Caerleon)
  • Rhymney Integrated Health & Social Care Centre

Key Responsibilities

Express Nursing are providing agency staffing in line with the All Wales Framework agreement.

As an agency nurse, you will be offered shifts in a range of inpatient and outpatient services in busy and fast paced environments that offer the opportunity to work closely with the medical team and other professions. Opportunities for learning are vast and will be fully supported.

We have opportunities for motivated Band 5 registered nurses to gain experience of working within the CCN service.

This opportunity will enable you to develop a variety of skills to support a career change into community practice and is open to newly qualified paediatric nurses. You will work across the community environments and hospital environment within CCNs, providing care to children / young people with healthcare needs. This will involve providing respite care, supporting outpatient clinics, special needs schools and the clinical service when working within the community.

You will deliver high quality nursing care to children and young people within the community, including the patient’s own home / respite facilities, the special needs schools, Childrens outpatient clinics and the expanding clinical workload within care closer to home.

Candidate Requirements

You will need to be fully compliant before we can offer details of shifts as your information will be shared with the Health Board.

A minimum of 12 months UK hospital experience is required.

NMC Pin Check and full DBS checks are required, it is a client requirement that we cannot offer shifts to anyone with any criminal convictions or cautions showing on their DBS checks. DBS must be on the update service.

  • To work as band 5 nurse providing nursing care to children/ young people within the community.
  • To participate in the care of children/ young people with complex needs in the community ensuring continuity of care and support for the child/ young person and their family.
  • To participate in the discharge planning of a child/ young person with healthcare needs from hospital to the community.
  • To conduct nursing assessments, devise, implement and evaluate nursing care plans.
  • Provide support to the child/ young person and the family ensuring that their healthcare needs are met as outlined within the nursing care plan.
  • To be conversant in the use of equipment (ie: syringe drivers, enteral feeding pumps, administration of IV medication and fluids)
  • To provide clinical care (eg: post operative care, wound management, blood sampling/ venepuncture, administration of medication, obtain samples etc)
  • To undertake aspects of nursing care (e.g. enteral feeding, tracheostomy care, obtain baseline observations, samples, wound/stoma management)
  • Assist in the support of children and their families caring for the dependant or dying child. Develop mechanisms to cope with stressful situations.
  • To provide respite care to children and young people in their own home or in a residential setting.
  • To work within paediatric outpatient clinics ensuring that clinics are run efficiently.
  • To provide nursing care to children within the Special Needs Schools.
  • To work within the hospital environment on the acute paediatric wards.
  • To take appropriate action in nursing emergencies, as they arise.
  • To complete comprehensive and accurate documentation, assessments and reports
  • Work within designated levels of competence to ensure safe practice seeking support and guidance where required to ensure the delivery of safe and appropriate care to the child/ young person.
  • To contribute to the Continuing Care process by conducting nursing assessments, providing information and reports.
  • To teach and assist the carer to give ongoing nursing care, and support them in this role.
  • To adhere to the All Wales and Health Boards Child Protection Procedures and be responsible for attend meetings and provide information and reports as requested.
