About the role

Express Nursing are recruiting for a HCA Mental Health in Monmouthshire. The client is a Level 2 mental health rehabilitation inpatient service. The hospital has a pathway that enables service users to move between units as recovery progresses, including a step-down placement within the hospital grounds and care homes in the local community.

You will join an inclusive and supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with a range of Mental Health conditions, using your knowledge and skills to help people along their recover pathway towards leading a valued and fulfilled life.

You will work alongside the team helping to provide a specialist provision. There is an enhanced level of support to allow people with continuing challenging behaviour and high support needs to be cared for in the least restrictive setting possible, but within a service which is robust and structured enough to meet their ongoing needs and risks.

The service ensures people lead good and meaningful everyday lives, where they have choice and control, accessing mainstream services and facilities, engaging in work and training, in leisure opportunities, hobbies and areas of personal interest. The service encourages people to be as independent as possible with the long-term aim of people moving onto a more independent living setting.

This client supports men and women:

  • Age 18 and over
  • Who have an identified mental health rehabilitation need. This includes people who may also have a mild learning disability, who are autistic or who have a diagnosis of Personality Disorder (PD)
  • Who have behaviours that challenge or are perceived to challenge services
  • Who may have a history of substance or alcohol misuse
  • Who may have a history of trauma
  • Who may have a forensic history and/or are stepping down from secure services
  • People identifying as women or men, whether they are transitioning or not, and those identifying as non-binary, gender fluid, gender non-conforming or genderqueer
  • Detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) or informal
  • Aiming for a return to community or community-based care

For a limited time, we can consider local candidates who are on a 20 hour VISA but this is restricted to 5 applications so be quick!

Key Responsibilities

our day-to-day will include ward rounds, analysing behaviours and adapting care accordingly with colleagues, updating patient records, and providing overall care and support, which may include assisting with personal hygiene.

It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important. But it is hugely rewarding to see people improve because of your involvement, knowing that you’ve made someone’s life better.

Public transport is limited to this site. You will ideally need to be a driver or live locally to Monmouthshire.

Candidate Requirements

Applications will only be considered if you have:

  • PMVA 3 day training
  • Practical Basic Life Support Training Certificate
  • Full immunisation History/ Serology Reports

Ability to work fully flexibly, covering day, night and weekend shifts
