About the role

Express Nursing are an approved provider for the All Wales Framework with contracts available in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Express Nursing are recruiting agency nurses across all specialities for shifts, including some early/late shifts which can be booked together (in the same hospital) to create a long day or night across separate wards.

  • Day – Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00
  • Night – 20:00 – 08:00
  • Saturday –  00:01 – 23:59
  • Sunday/ Public Holidays 00:01 – 23:59

General Hospitals:

  • Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (Ystrad Mynach), Ty Cyfannol Ward

Community Hospitals:

  • County Hospital (Pontypool) Talygarn Ward
  • Maindiff Court Hospital, Ty Skirrid Ward
  • St Cadoc's Hospital, Adferiad Unit (Caerleon)
  • St Cadoc's Hospital, Beechwood Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
  • St Cadoc's Hospital, Pillmawr Ward
  • Carn-y-Cefn Ward, Blaenau Gwent

Key Responsibilities

Express Nursing are providing agency staffing in line with the All Wales Framework agreement.

As an agency nurse, you will be offered shifts in a range of inpatient and outpatient services in busy and fast paced environments that offer the opportunity to work closely with the medical team and other professions. Opportunities for learning are vast and will be fully supported. Safe and timely triage of patients is essential, and support will be offered to develop the assessment skills required to undertake this.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care of patients, ensuring appropriate action is taken
  • To communicate sensitive information concerning patient’s condition,
  • To use persuasive, reassurance skills as patients have mental health issues, some with special needs and/or learning disabilities
  • To actively participate with the MDT in planning, reviewing and delivering care.
  • To ensure that changes in the patient’s physical mental health and behaviour are reported and recorded
  • To maintain working knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to mental health and learning disabilities.
  • To identify, provide and supervise therapeutic activities, emotional support and stability to patients to ensure effective engagement whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • To create and maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff, with other professionals and agencies to enhance recovery.
  • To maintain personal clinical expertise as required by the needs of a changing service and statutory bodies.
  • To ensure that all clinical and risk assessments are completed and reviewed in line with Health Board policies on data collection.
  • To be responsible for the administration of prescribed medication in line with Health Board policy and drug administration standards.
  • To work within and manage the legal and professional frameworks relating to consent, capacity, deprivation of liberty and the Mental Health Act.

Candidate Requirements

You will need to be fully compliant before we can offer details of shifts as your information will be shared with the Health Board.

A minimum of 12 months UK hospital experience is required.

NMC Pin Check and full DBS checks are required, it is a client requirement that we cannot offer shifts to anyone with any criminal convictions or cautions showing on their DBS checks. DBS must be on the update service.

In order to maximise your shifts, if you are relocating to the area, we recommend centralised accommodation in order to maximise the number of locations where we can offer work. Sometimes shifts might be early or late shifts, which we can book across multiple wards at the same hospital.
