About the role

Express Nursing are an approved provider for the All Wales Framework with contracts available in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Express Nursing are recruiting agency nurses across all specialities for shifts, including some early/late shifts which can be booked together (in the same hospital) to create a long day or night across separate wards.

  • Day – Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00
  • Night – 20:00 – 08:00
  • Saturday –  00:01 – 23:59
  • Sunday/ Public Holidays 00:01 – 23:59

  • The Grange University Hospital (Cwmbran)

General Hospitals:

Enhanced local general hospitals providing 24/7 minor injuries, diagnostics, and, maternity care

  • Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport)
  • Nevill Hall Hospital (Abergavenny)
  • Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (Ystrad Mynach)

Key Responsibilities

Express Nursing are providing agency staffing in line with the All Wales Framework agreement.

As an agency nurse, you will be offered shifts in a range of hospital services in busy and fast paced environments that offer the opportunity to work closely with the medical team and other professions. Opportunities for learning are vast and will be fully supported. Safe and timely triage of patients is essential, and support will be offered to develop the assessment skills required to undertake this.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in order to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.
  • Ensure the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high-quality service for babies and their families Maintain patients nursing records to ensure information is accurate and up to date
  • Ensure that patients and carers/relatives are involved in the planning and delivery of care.
  • Ensure patient needs are met by working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, especially in relation to ongoing care need
  • Ensure that effective communication is established and maintained with patients and carers/relatives, taking accurate message information on the phone or from seniors, relaying all environmental and patient information to the nurse in charge and remain polite and courteous at all times.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients/families, including patients with special needs/learning disabilities or other barriers to communication.
  • Assess patient’s suitability for discharge following medical review and instigate discharge planning arrangements. Liaise with multidisciplinary teams as appropriate to assist in complex discharge planning.
  • Administer medication e.g., intramuscular/subcutaneous medications, ensuring that procedures are compliant with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Policy.
  • Carry out procedures in relation to care of patients e.g., venepuncture, cannulation, removal of sutures.
  • Ensure that the patient is safely prepared for and escorted to/from theatre, radiology and other investigations.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Participate in the responsibility to maintain a clean environment and ensure all members of staff follow cleaning responsibilities.

Candidate Requirements

You will need to be fully compliant before we can offer details of shifts as your information will be shared with the Health Board.

A minimum of 12 months UK hospital experience is required with relevant experience on NNU

NMC Pin Check and full DBS checks are required, it is a client requirement that we cannot offer shifts to anyone with any criminal convictions or cautions showing on their DBS checks. DBS must be on the update service.

In order to maximise your shifts, if you are relocating to the area, we recommend centralised accommodation in order to maximise the number of locations where we can offer work. Sometimes shifts might be early or late shifts, which we can book across multiple wards at the same hospital.
