The NHS is a vital component of the UK's healthcare system, and locum work plays a huge role in keeping it running. Locums are highly valued and respected professionals who fill in the gaps left by permanent staff, providing a flexible and cost-effective solution (let me back this up) to help ensure that the NHS can meet the demands of a growing and ageing population. It's been a difficult few weeks for the NHS, with both doctors and nurses striking at the same time. With the pressure on staff and resources already high, the impact on patient safety and care is significant. 🏥👩🏾⚕️👨🏼⚕️
The lack of access to critical services such as surgery and antenatal care can put patients at risk, and it can cause anxiety for those who need urgent medical attention and can’t get it, but it's important that we take a step back and remember the incredible job that NHS staff do every single day. We must acknowledge their hard work and dedication, and by increasing pay and ensuring fair pay for healthcare workers, we are investing in the future of healthcare. We know that our healthcare workers are the lifeblood of the sector and that they deserve to be properly recognised and rewarded for their hard work. 💪 💰
(Here comes the backup) There is a view from some that using locum workers in the NHS is an expensive solution and costly way to staff the NHS, but with NHS England reporting the cost of Cancelled Elective Operations, published in May 2022 being over 36,000 in just 6 months, with over 11,000 of these being due to staffing shortages and being the main cause of cancellations, utilising locums suddenly doesn’t seem as expensive a solution.
Forth Valley NHS reported that the cost of 5,500 cancelled last-minute treatments cost over £660,000 a month and it’s been previously reported by NHS England alone that they have wasted £4 million a year in cancellations due to staffing provisions.
Our priority is always to deliver the highest quality of service for our nurses, and by offering higher pay rates, and being a last minute on demand service provision we are supporting both the nurses with their own living costs as well as being on hand for hospitals facing staff shortages, ensuring that every patient receives the best care possible. 💙
If you're looking for a rewarding and meaningful career, locum work in the NHS could be the perfect choice! #LocumWork #NHS #Healthcare
